Buenos
Aires lies within the Capital Federal District and forms one
of the world’s largest metropolitan areas. Buenos Aires
is a heven for shoppers. The elegant cosmopolitan centre that
takes pride in its cultural establishments. Modernization overshadows
most of the city’s glorious past, although the immense
Catedral Metropolitana which contains the remains of San Martín,
Argentina’s liberator, is an exception.
The traditionally the center
of activity is the Plaza de Mayo. Both the cathedral and remaining
portions of the original Cabildo are also around the corner.
At the west end is the Plaza del Congreso, and the stately but
rundown Congreso building.

note that additional info (prices, activities, etc) are found

Florida and Lavalle pedestrian
malls, the Plaza San Martín, the commercial and entertainment
areas of Corrientes, Córdoba and the fashionable Santa
Fe are the popular tourist areas within the microcentro. North
of the microcentro is the chic and upper-class Recoleta borough,
famous for its Cemeterio de la Recoleta, a cemetary that was
used for Argentina's elite. The famous Museo Nacional de Bellas
Artes is just noth and has works by Renoir, Rodin, Van Gogh,
Monet and numerous Argentine artists.
A neighbourhood called Puerto
Madero, near the presidential palace, is fast developing to
take over Recoleta as the city’s most chic quarter. Most
of the old warehouses and docks have been transformed into cafes,
lofts, trendy nightclubs, expensive restaurants, new office
blocks and a university campus.
