Soccer or fútbol is
the national game of Argentina and has a huge following in Buenos
Aires but is a predominantly lower-class game. Argentina has
a world class soccer team. The nation won the World Cup in 1978
and 1986, and Buenos Aires has the highest density of first-division
soccer teams in the world. Club Atlético Vélez
Sarsfield, Club Deportivo Español, Club Ferrocarril Oeste,
Club Huracán are some of the clubs.
Other games include pato,
which is a typical sport of Argentina. Rugby is also popular
with the middle class. Unlike soccer, pato is a fashionable
game for the high society. It is similar to polo and is played
on horseback by two teams with a round ball encased within attached
handles. Most games played in north america and europe except
baseball and american football are also popular in Buenos Aires.
