Palace
of La Glorieta
La Glorieta is a wonderful
palace previously owned by the wealthy entrepreneur Don Francisco
de Argandoña. It now is used as a military school.
Don Francisco traveled throughout europe and decide to build
a home reflecting the various architectural styles he had
seen in europe. Architect Antonio Camponovo was assigned the
task to design and build the home incorporating Don Francisco's
ideas .

Museum of La Recoleta
This museum was constructed
by the Franciscan Order in the early 16th century. On display
are republican and colonial and anonymous paintings from the
16th to the 20th centuries, sculptures and archaeological
artifacts. In one of the stairwells
is a plaque marking the spot where President Pedro Blanco
was assassinated in 1828.
Casa de la Libertad
This
beautiful house was for residence of the members of the company
of Jesus. After the expulsion of the jesuits In 1767, with
the expulsion of the Jesuits the convent was incorporated
to the University San Francisco Xavier. It is located on the
main plaza, where the declaration of independence of Bolivia
was signed on august 6th, 1825. The actual document and numerous
other mementoes of the era are on display. Portraits of presidents,
military decorations, and documents are also displayed. The
Casa de la Libertad has been designated a national memorial
in commemoration of several historical events that have taken
place there.
Tarabuco
Tarabuco is a small village
about 40 miles from Sucre where the residents still retain
their cultural values and conserve their traditional customs
and dress. Every sunday this sleepy little town suddenly transforms
into a colorful, bustling market attracting indigenous people
from all over Bolivia. People show up in their entire splendor
with spanish hats, colorful cloaks and skirts and pompoms
and shop for the beautiful weavings, magnificent crafts that
the local artists have to offer. The other products include
fruits, vegetables, hats, dyes, colored threads etc.
Chataquila
Chataquila is a beautiful
little village by the cordillera, filled with pre hispanic
ruins including a pleasant stone church and great views and
scenery. There are good opportunities for hiking or simply
walking through the countryside and enjoying nature. This
small village does not offer any accommodation facilities
for the visitor but camping is possible.
