| Students will have the opportunity
to take Spanish classes that focus on Spanish for medical purposes.
The classes will be held from 8:00AM-2:30PM. Students are placed
according to level based upon a written exam and oral interview.
The maximum class size is four students per class. Small class
size makes for optimum learning as the students receive specialized
attention from their professor.
Cultural Activities
After classes in the afternoons the school schedules
activities, examples include: Latin dance and cooking classes,
and Latin music night. During the week optional afternoon excursions
are organized so that you may explore the Flamingo area. These
range in price from $20 - $40. Activities include: an afternoon
sunset cruise, horseback riding along the beach, mountain bike
tour, snorkeling, and a safari tour of the Tamarindo estuary.
Weekend Excursion
Trip to Rincón
de la Vieja Volcano and Santa Rosa National Park
This tour begins on Saturday morning (after
the first week of class) and includes a visit to Rincón
de la Vieja Volcano, a volcano known for hot water and mud pools
along the volcano base. During this guided tour you will walk
along the trails and become acquainted with the flora and fauna
of the area. The evening is spent in the capital of Guanacaste,
Liberia, and on Sunday morning leave for Santa Rosa. Classified
as a dry forest, Santa Rosa Reserve, the first national park in
Costa Rica, offers a selection of hiking trails within the forest
(some lead to the coast line where visitors can swim in the crystal
blue waters of the Pacific). In addition to over 250 species of
birds, animals seen in the reserve include: deer, anteaters, over
50 species of bats and howler, spider and white-faced monkeys.
Within the park is "La Casona", a museum rich with historical
importance; it was here where Costa Rica defended her independence
against the North American colonizer, William Walker.
Includes: Spanish
classes, text books, room and board (breakfast and dinner) with
a Costa Rican family, week-end excursion (no meals), and airport
pick-up in Heredia.
Clinical Observation
(Minimum 2 week commitment)
If course participants wish to remain in Costa
Rica after the medical Spanish course we can assist in arranging
a clinical observation where medical students (at least 4th year
medical student) may shadow a physician at a hospital in the Central
Valley. Students would be responsible for their transportation
to the clinic and room and board. |
