SITES OF INTEREST
Heredia
is the capital of the povince of Heredia, and is one the oldest
towns in the country. The area surrounding the town is the heart
of the coffee growing region of Costa Rica.
The heart and soul of the town
centers around the old central plaza. Nearby the plaza lie a small
but historic church, the remnants of an old fort/tower, and numerous
shops and restaurants. The plaza is popular with locals and visitors
alike as a place to meet or just hang out. On a regular basis
various events and activities (weekly concerts) are held in the
plaza.
If
you want to get a real feel for Costa Rican life make sure you
stop by the Mercado Central. This is where the locals go to buy
locally grown produce. Other sites of interest in the area include
coffee tours, the butterfly farm, the Marine Zoological Museum,
and the Casa de la Cultura.
Additionally San Jose,
just 20 minutes away, has an abundance of things to see and do.
