Family Spanish Program

Spanish Abroad, Inc. has offered the Family Spanish Program in Antigua for several years now and it has received amazing feed back due to its flexible schedule and low cost Spanish programs. The Family Spanish Program in Antigua, Guatemala is geared towards families of 2 or more students. This can include Mom and/or Dad and one or more children. Children must be at least 5 years and older to participate in Spanish Children Classes.

Antigua provides a quaint secure atmosphere that is perfect for our Family Spanish Program in Guatemala. Antigua’s majestic setting, cobblestone streets, and sprays of bougainvillea are charming. The buildings have colonial style facades and tile roofs. There are many ruins including churches, convents, palaces and mansions. Over 200 years ago Antigua was one of the centers of Spanish power. Antigua is also home to Indian markets, a wide range of restaurants, café’s, and a dazzling array of shops. Antigua is a fascinating place to spend time and learn Spanish in Guatemala.

No matter what your tastes are, you will always find something to do in Antigua. Antigua is a small town so it is easy to get to all the major sites within walking distance. Antigua is also a great jumping off points to the amazing Indian Markets of Chichicastenango as well as the Mayan ruins in Tikal and throughout Guatemala.

Arrival Into Antigua, Guatemala
Your family will be expected to arrive on a Sunday into Guatemala City, Guatemala. We will pre-arrange an airport pickup. The cost for the pickup is $25 per person. You will be taken directly to your host family or other form of accommodation.

Family Spanish Program Courses

Adult Spanish Course:

The Spanish language school in Antigua offers as a standard option individual (private) Spanish instruction for 4 lessons per day. In addition to classes, the Spanish school in Antigua offers a nice variety of interesting cultural activities and assists students in making other travel excursions for weekend getaways. Overall, we have found the facilities and Spanish teachers to be some of the best in Guatemala.

Children’s Spanish Course:

The children’s Spanish course is structured and costs the same as the adult Spanish course. The Spanish instructor will gear the materials and the Spansih course content towards a lesson plan more appropriate to the individual child's age and language level. We can also arrange for any multiple children to share the private Spanish instructor upon request.

Family Spanish Program Accommodations

Host Family
Students will live with local families in Antigua in order to receive a full immersion environment. This will allow them to practice their Spanish in an everyday setting. The Guatemalan host family will provide 3 meals per day for the students which will allow for additional time to practice their Spanish through conversations at meal time. We can arrange for private or shared room accommodations. In almost all cases there will be more than 3 students at one host family, whether they are inclusive of your family or not.

Student Residence
Families that are not interested in staying with a host family during their Spanish Immersion program and want a basic accommodation with meals included will find the Spanish language school's Residence to be an affordable alternative to a hotel.

Hotels
We can arrange hotel accommodations in Antigua upon request on a customized basis.

Family Activities and Excursions

With the Family Spanish Program we do not include any activities or excursions. The Spanish language school in Antigua, Guatemala will still offer their normal ala carte activities and excursions of which some activities are free. We cannot guarantee that any one particular activity or excursion will be available as they are not arranged in advance. Typical activities and excursions in Guatemala included dance classes, cooking classes, Volcan Pacaya hike, Tikal Mayan Ruins Trip, Indian Market trip, Panajachel, Lake Atitlan, etc.

Family Spanish Program Pricing
Program costs are based on the normal course and accommodation cost. Airfare to Guatemala City is not included in the cost of the program.

All registrations must be received at least 1 months prior to the start of your program or we cannot guarantee availability of the program.

Start Dates
The Family Spanish Program courses in Antigua Guatemala start every Monday as long as availability permits.

Registration & Payment Conditions
The registration process and payment for this program is different than our other programs.

The following payment and refund conditions apply for the Standard Family Spanish Program.

Payment of Balance To Spanish Abroad
Spanish Abroad must receive full payment of the balance of the program cost 4 weeks before the start date of the Family Spanish program. This must be paid by personal check. If the balance of payment is not made on the date 4 weeks prior to the start date of their program the student’s program will be cancelled and the deposit will be forfeit.

Upon receipt of the balance of payment, Spanish Abroad will issue a finalized confirmation packet and invoice. This will include all information about the program, itinerary, any changes, and information about Guatemala and what the student needs to bring. If after having received this confirmation packet, you have any other questions or concerns, please contact us immediately.

Registration
To register and hold a spot for this program you must:
• Call 1-888-722-7623 and speak with one of our Family Spanish Program Advisors to Register over the phone.
• You will be asked to place a $50 per person registration fee, which is non-refundable fee and is separate from the program cost.
• You will receive confirmation within 72 hours of registration.

Cancellation Policy
Once we receive full payment for the program, we will refund 50% of the total amount.

Once the program has begun there is NO refund of the program price. Unless on account of medical emergency, certified by a doctor or hospital. In all such cases the amount refunded will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Cancellation of the program must be in writing, either by e-mail or letter. By registering for the program by phone as well as authorizing payment for the deposit to Spanish Abroad you are declaring that you have read and agree to this statement and policies as written and intended.
