Children's Spanish Camp
Itinerary
Sunday, June 29th
7pm – WELCOME! We will have a Welcome Mixer at the Spanish Camp in Tamarindo, Costa Rica where students and parents will get to meet with the camp counselors, art teacher and Spanish school director. There will be snacks and drinks available for both adults and children. After time the meet and greet, the lead counselor and school director will go over the plans and schedule for the program ahead. They will be available to answer any and all questions that adults or children might have. They will go over all contact information and emergency procedures as well.
Monday, June 30th
9am – Parents will bring their Children to the Spanish school in Tamarindo. Students will sit down with a Spanish teacher and be given a language evaluation and then placed in their ability level. After the evaluations are complete, there will be a short break.
9:30am - Spanish classes begin. There will be a 10 minute break in the middle for drinks and snacks.
12pm – Lunch at a nearby restaurant on the beach.
1pm – 3pm, Art Lessons with artist Richard Godfrey. BFA 1976, MFA 1978 San Francisco Art Institute. Additional studies at Carnegie Mellon University and Cleveland Art Institute. Mr. Godfrey has been involved in art education with youth and college programs over the past fifteen years, conducting classes and workshops at the University of Los Angeles, California; San Francisco Art Institute; Santa Monica Museum, as well as numerous other institutions. As an artist, Richard Godfrey has exhibited his work in galleries and museums both nationally and internationally including Otis Institute, Pasadena Armory Center for the Arts, Laguna Art Museum and the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery. Examples of his work can be seen at www.richardgodfrey.com. The art lessons will include drawing, sketching and painting as well as sculpture and working with clay. He will blend in aspects of art from Costa Rica as well as more traditional techniques. After which we will return to the school where parents can pick them up.
Tuesday, July 1st
9am – 11am, Spanish Classes at the camp.
11am – 12pm, Beach volleyball and swimming at the beach.
12pm – Lunch at a nearby restaurant on the beach.
1pm – 3pm, Art Lessons
3pm - Pick up at school.
Wednesday, July 2nd
9am – 11am, Classes at the Spanish school.
11am – 12pm, Soccer match at the beach.
12pm – Lunch at one of the restaurants in town.
1pm – 3pm Surf Lessons! Students will go to the beach after lunch where they will be met by local surf instructors. They will be given surf boards to match their ability and size. The instructors will give them information about safety and about the beach. After this they will break the students up into smaller groups and begin the lessons. The first part of the lessons will be on the beach followed by going out into the waves with the instructors. All instructors are certified lifeguards and have taken swift water rescue courses. There will also be a lifeguard on duty as well as all the counselors. Parents are welcome to come by and watch their children surf.
3pm – Return to the school for pick up.
Thursday, July 3rd
9am – 11am, Classes at the Spanish camp.
11am – 12:30pm, Soccer Match against local Costa Rican children. Students will be transported to the nearby Costa Rican village of Villareal. There they will have a soccer match against a team of local children.
12:30pm – Lunch will be at a local restaurant with the Costa Rican children.
1:30pm – 3pm, Art Lessons, with pick up at the school afterwards.
Friday, July 4th
9am – 11am, Spanish Classes at the school.
11am – 12pm, Beach volleyball and swimming at the beach.
12pm – Lunch at one of the restaurants in town.
1pm – 3pm Zip Lining! Students will be transported by private van to a nearby nature preserve where they will be outfitted with repelling gear. They will then be given safety instructions from the tour guides before ascending into the forest canopy. Once at the first platform, they will proceed to fly through the air suspend on metal cables attached to the trees. There are nine different cables and platforms of varying lengths. This is a very exciting and fun adventure, but also very safe.
3pm – Return to the school for pick up.
Saturday, July 5th & Sunday, July 6th
Free Weekend. Students and their families have the weekend to hang out or travel to other parts of Costa Rica.
Monday, July 7th
8am – New Student Orientation. Parents and children starting this week will meet at the school. They will meet the camp counselors, art teacher and school director. The children will be given an oral and written evaluation to place them in the correct level of Spanish.
9am – 11am, Spanish Classes at the school.
11am – 12pm, Beach volleyball and swimming at the beach.
12pm – Lunch at a nearby restaurant on the beach.
1pm – 3pm, Art Lessons
3pm –Pick up at the school.
Tuesday, July 8th
9am – 11am, Spanish Classes at the school.
11am – 12pm, Soccer match at the beach and swimming.
12pm – Lunch at one of the restaurants in town.

4:30pm – Return to the school for pick up.

11am – 12:30pm, Soccer Match against local Costa Rican children. Students will be transported to the nearby Costa Rican village of Villareal. There they will have a soccer match against a team of local children.

2pm – 3pm, Return to Playa Tamarindo and to the beach to swim and play.
3pm –Pick up at the school.
Thursday, July 10th
9am – 11am, Spanish Classes at the school.
11am – 12pm, play time at the beach to swim and hang out.
12pm – Lunch at one of the restaurants in town.
1pm – 3pm, Visit to Monkey Park and Marine Aquarium! Students will be transported by private van to Monkey Park. This is a privately run wildlife sanctuary and rescue center. Here students will see monkeys of all types that are found in Costa Rica, along with a number of other species. Some of these animals come to the park because they are injured and need time to heal before returning to the wild while others were once pets and they are trying to re-introduce them back into the wild. Along side the Monkey Park is the Marine Aquarium. Here students will get a chance to get into a pool with live sharks and other marine life. The sharks are not dangerous and it is a great educational experience and a lot of fun.
3pm – Return to the school for pick up.

9am – 11am, Spanish Classes at the school.
11am – 12pm, Soccer, volleyball and swimming at the beach.
12pm – Lunch at El Pescador Restaurant at the beach.
1pm – 3pm Art Classes at the school.
3pm – Camp Graduation Ceremony. Students will be given certificates of completion for their Spanish. We will have a program wrap up with cake and drinks.

$600 per week, includes package as described in itinerary
Host Family Accommodations: $130 per week, per family member
The program start on any Monday given in the itinerary.
