Family Spanish Program

Spanish Abroad, Inc. is proud to offer a Family Spanish Program that will provide the normal Spanish Program available to all of our students in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico. This particular program is geared towards families of 2 or more students. This can include Mom and/or Dad and one or more children. Children must be at least 7 years and older to participate in Spanish Classes. Families can now start courses on any given Monday as long as it is not on a holiday.

Playa del Carmen, Mexico is a lovely, picturesque Mayan fishing village located in the center of Mexico's Cancun-Tulum corridor in the state of Quintana Roo. In the heart of the Yucatan Peninsula on the Caribbean coast. This small city is approximately 40 minutes from the international airport in Cancun, and only 40 minutes by ferry to Cozumel.

Playa del Carmen is known throughout the world for its numerous attractions which include: snorkeling, diving, wind surfing, fishing, golf, and horseback riding. The beaches themselves are spectacular. Nowhere else will you find beaches so white, and sand so soft. For snorkeling and diving, your family has come to the right place. The water is crystal clear, and the area is home to numerous reefs, all of which are teeming with an abundance of life.

For those interested in the Maya Civilization, there is no better place for your family to be. Within just a few hours of Playa del Carmen are the impressive ruins of Chichen Itza, Coba, and of course Tulum. There are numerous tours plus excellent bus services from Playa del Carmen. Playa Del Carmen is a great option for families that want both a beach location and a jumping point to nearby cultural hubs of the Yucatan.

Arrival Into Playa Del Carmen, Mexico
The Family Spanish Program starts in Cancun, Mexico. Your family will be expected to arrive on a Sunday into Cancun. We will pre-arrange an airport pickup. The cost for the pickup is $50 for the first family member and $40 for each additional family member.

Family Spanish Courses in Mexico

Adult Spanish Course:
This program consists of classes with a maximum of 5 students per teacher. Courses are held from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and are composed of four lessons of conversational grammar. Afternoon classes may be offered in times of high enrollment.
The staff of professional Mexican teachers, with more than 15 years of teaching experience, are specially trained to maximize the students´ learning potential. All the instructors have taken courses on Spanish as a Second Language, and some have Education, Business Administration and Marketing degrees. Each instructor is amply qualified to instruct, but our instructors are also unique in their patience, attentiveness and eagerness to interact with and assist students, all of which creates a comfort level and friendship between student and teacher.

Children Spanish Course:
We are offering child group courses at the same prices as the adult program. We will offer them for children from 7 to 16 years old. They will have 20 lesson per week from 9:00 until 1:00 PM. Classes may be arranged in the afternoon during times of high enrollment. We will arrange the parent’s courses to take place at the same time.

The student will have 4 lessons of instruction each day. The instructors focus the class more towards the learning style and subjects of interest for children. Teens that are 16 and over will be placed in adult classes.

Family Spanish Program Accommodations
Families will have the option to choose between host family or student residence accommodations. Accommodations are included from Sunday night of your arrival till Friday night of your final week of courses.

Host Family
The Mexican host family option provides the true immersion experience for the family Spanish program. The host families are patient and extend themselves to help our students learn Spanish. Students staying with a host family, are totally immersed in the Mexican culture and have the opportunity to practice Spanish daily. The family provides breakfast and lunch or dinner. Laundry service is available at an additional cost. You will need to arrange your own lunch at any particular restaurant near the Spanish language school in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. With advance notice the host families can meet special dietary needs, including those of vegetarians and vegans. All accommodations are arranged as private room unless shared rooms are requested.

Students are always a welcome guest in a home stay and have a wonderful opportunity to practice the language, learn about Mexican culture and, in turn, share their culture with the family. Most host families are located within 20 minutes walking of the Spanish language school in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. . Some provide their students with bicycles, so they can get around the city and to and from the school easily and quickly. Students can also rent bikes in at the Spanish language school in Playa del Carmen, Mexico for $1 USD per day. If your family is further than 20 minutes walking distance, we can discuss alternative options to walking. If your registration is received with ample notice then you will not have a problem with receiving a family within walking distance.

Student Residence
The student residence is located just down the street from the Spanish school. The residence in Playa del Carmen, Mexico is essentially a five-bedroom, three-bath house. For families we typically arrange a shared bedroom arrangement. You will share the facilities of the house including the kitchen and living areas with other students attending the school. The residence is cleaned regularly and is quite comfortable by local standards. The student residence is an affordable accommodation option that is only a 5 minute walk from the school and very close to all sites of interest within Playa del Carmen.

Activities and Excursions
With the Family Spanish Program we do not include any activities or excursions. The Spanish language school in Playa del Carmen will still offer their normal ala carte activities and excursions of which some activities are free. We cannot guarantee that any one particular activity or excursion will be available as they are not arranged in advance.

Program costs are based on the normal course and accommodation cost.. Airfare to Cancun is not included in the package as pricing may vary depending on your point of departure.

All registrations must be received at least 2 months prior to the start of your program or we cannot guarantee availability of the program.

Start Dates
The Family Spanish Program courses start every Monday unless there is a holiday.

Registration & Payment Conditions
The registration process and payment for this program is different than our other programs.

For the Family Spanish Program the following are the payment and refund conditions.

Payment of Balance To Spanish Abroad
Spanish Abroad must receive full payment of the balance of the program cost twelve weeks before the start date of the Family Spanish program. This must be paid by personal check. If the balance of payment is not made on the date twelve weeks prior to the start date of their program the student’s program will be cancelled and the deposit will be forfeit.

Upon receipt of the balance of payment, Spanish Abroad will issue a finalized confirmation packet and invoice. This will include all information about the program, itinerary, any changes, and information about Mexico and what the student needs to bring. If after having received this confirmation packet, you have any other questions or concerns, please contact us immediately.

Registration
To register and hold a spot for this program you must:
• Call 1-888-722-7623 and speak with one of our Family Spanish Program Advisors to Register over the phone.
• You will be asked to place a $50 per person registration fee, which is non-refundable fee and is separate from the program cost.
• You will receive confirmation within 72 hours of registration. An invoice along with other important information will be sent by email upon confirmation of the program.


Cancellation Policy
Full payment is due 4 weeks prior to the start of the program.

Once we receive full payment for the program, we will refund 50% of the total amount.

Once the program has begun there is NO refund of the program price. Unless on account of medical emergency, certified by a doctor or hospital. In all such cases the amount refunded will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Cancellation of the program must be in writing, either by e-mail or letter. By registering for the program by phone as well as authorizing payment for the deposit to Spanish Abroad you are declaring that you have read and agree to this statement and policies as written and intended.
