Family Spanish Program

Spanish Abroad, Inc. is proud to offer a Family Spanish Program that will provide the normal Spanish Immersion Program available to all of our students in San Sebastian, Spain. This particular Spanish family program is geared towards families of 2 or more students. This can include Mom and/or Dad and one or more children. Children must be at least 7 years and older to participate in the children's Spanish Classes in San Sebastian, Spain. Teens that are 14-17 can attend the Junior Spanish program which is exclusive for their age group during designated summer dates. Starting in 2008 we are now offering a Children's Spanish Camp in Spain which is available to students that are 7 to 14 years of age during select dates indicated in the summer.

Donostia, as San Sebastian is called in Basque, is located on the northern Cantabrian coast of Spain and is the cultural capital of the Basque country. It is about 12 miles from the French border and is close to other popular destinations.

This clean and modern city has a population of about 180,000 sheltered by the mountains Igueldo, Urgull and Ulía with the river Urumea flowing through the middle of it. It has Bilbao to the southwest, Pamplona to the southeast and the Pyrenees mountains and Biarritz to the northeast.

San Sebastian has several seaside resorts with spectacular views of La Concha Bay. The quaint city, great beaches and mild warm summer climate, make San Sebastian a great destination for families. San Sebastian provides a very comfortable location for a Family Spanish Program.

Arrival Into San Sebastian
The Family Spanish Program starts in San Sebastian, Spain. Your family will be expected to arrive on a Sunday into San Sebastian. We will pre-arrange an airport pickup. The cost for the pickup is $50 per family member.

Family Spanish Courses

Adult Spanish Course:

The adult Spanish program consists of 4 (45 minute per lesson) Spanish lessons of group Spanish instruction per day with no more than 12 students in one Spanish class. The Spanish program is designed to promote your ability to communicate. Depending on the time of year, and the number of students in the Spanish school at the time of your program, classes may be offered in either the morning or afternoon.

Junior Spanish Program:

This Junor Spanish Program is arranged in conjunction with the family Spanish program for teens 14 years and older. It is not to be confused with the normal Junior program as the pricing does not include the normal Junior program activities as we find families prefer to customize their activities to meet the need of their family. The teen Spanish courses areheld in the morning and is arranged in the same fashion as the adult Spanish course but with 5 lessons per day and a curriculum appropriate to their age group.

Children's Spanish Camp:

Starting in 2008 we will be offering the Chidren's Summer Camp in Spain for those children who are travelling with their parents to San Sebastian and are between the age of 7 to 14. The Spanish Camp includes Spanish classes in the morning with a variety of activities in the afternoon. There will also be English students from around the world to provide an international environment at the school. These students will be studying English seperate from those studying English, but all students will interact during the activities.

The camp is located about 10 minutes from San Sebastian by public transportation in the village of Urnieta. This location provides a safe environment for students studying and living at the camp. The Spanish camp provides an onsite residence for the students who choose the Full Camp option. The students will live onsite and be provided with all three meals on a daily basis. Each room is separated by gender and has 6 beds with its own private closet. Bathrooms and shower facilities are shared based on gender.

The school also provides a half day option for those students that just want classes or a day camp opton for those students that want classes and activities but don't need accommodations. Parents will need to arrange transportation for these two options.

Children's Spanish Course: (Offered year-round)

The Spanish courses for children under the age of 14 consists of private Spanish instruction with one of the school’s experienced Spanish instructors. We recommend the Children's Spanish Camp (ages 7-14) or Junior program (ages 14-17) during these programs' designated dates as explained but we can arrange the private courses throughout the year. The children will have 4 lessons of Spanish instruction during the afternoon. Children’s Spanish courses in San Sebastian, Spain may not always be the same time as the parent’s Spanish courses as the parent’s may be scheduled in the morning depending on their language level. We will make our best effort to schedule the children's Spanish courses at the same time as the parents. If you have more than one child under the age of 14 years, we will schedule the children to share a Spanish instructor.

Family Spanish Program Accommodations
Families will have the option to choose between host family or private apartment accommodations. Accommodations are included from Sunday night of your arrival till Friday night of your final week of courses.

Host Family
Make the most of your stay in San Sebastian and benefit from being able to practice your Spanish after school. Living with one of our carefully chosen Spanish families enables you to learn more about the culture and customs, to sample home cooked local cuisine, and to use the language in its most natural form. Two meals are provided each day (Breakfast and Dinner). We can arrange for your entire family to stay with one family or we can provide multiple host families for each family member. Accommodations are arranged to start on a Sunday Night and end on a Saturday (Friday Night Included).

Private Apartment
These exclusive apartments are a customized arrangement and selected based on the length of your stay and availability. Apartments are typically 10-30 minutes walking distance from the school. All Apartments include: Cooking facilities and basic kitchen utensils as well as bed linens and blankets. The apartment will also include a refrigerator, washing machine, and oven. Not all apartments will include any additional appliances not listed. The apartments are furnished with basic furniture. All utilities and taxes are included in the pricing.

Activities and Excursions
With the Family Spanish Program we do not include any activities or excursions. The school will still offer their normal ala carte activities and excursions of which some activities are free. We cannot guarantee that any one particular activity or excursion will be available as they are not arranged in advance.

Registration & Payment Conditions
The registration process and payment for this program is different than our other programs.

For the Family Spanish Program the following are the payment and refund conditions.

Payment of Balance To Spanish Abroad
Spanish Abroad must receive full payment of the balance of the program cost four weeks before the start date of the Family Spanish program. This must be paid by personal check. If the balance of payment is not made on the date four weeks prior to the start date of their program the student’s program will be cancelled and the deposit will be forfeit.

Upon receipt of the balance of payment, Spanish Abroad will issue a finalized confirmation packet and invoice. This will include all information about the program, itinerary, any changes, and information about Spain and what the student needs to bring. If after having received this confirmation packet, you have any other questions or concerns, please contact us immediately.

Registration
To register and hold a spot for this program you must:
• Call 1-888-722-7623 and speak with one of our Family Spanish Program Advisors to Register over the phone.
• You will be asked to place a $50 per person registration fee, which is non-refundable fee and is separate from the program cost.
• You will receive confirmation within 72 hours of registration. An invoice along with other important information will be sent by email upon confirmation of the program.


Cancellation Policy
Spanish Abroad will refund 50% of the deposit amount up until 12 weeks prior to the start of the program.

Once we receive full payment for the program, we will refund 50% of the total amount.

Once the program has begun there is NO refund of the program price. Unless on account of medical emergency, certified by a doctor or hospital. In all such cases the amount refunded will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Cancellation of the program must be in writing, either by e-mail or letter. By registering for the program by phone as well as authorizing payment for the deposit to Spanish Abroad you are declaring that you have read and agree to this statement and policies as written and intended.
