The Spanish
language school is a socially-responsible educational institute
in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala promoting cross-cultural understanding
through its Spanish, Quiche languages and cultural programs, social
projects, internship program, volunteer work and travel services.
Founded in 1987, this school is a cooperative
consisting of a core group of teachers who participate in decision
making. A percentage of each year's earnings is designated for
local community programs.
Objectives:
• To help visitors gain knowledge of
the culture, customs, and traditions of Guatemala.
• To educate visitors about the social,
political, and economic reality of Guatemala.
• To create justly-paid employment opportunities
for Guatemalan professionals.
• To carry out development projects for
people in need in Guatemala and to help groups that are struggling
to improve the country.
1987 ~ First Spanish program in Guatemala to
introduce daily social and cultural activities as part of the
Spanish immersion experience.
1990 ~ First Spanish program to require university
graduated teachers
1995 ~ First Spanish program in Guatemala to
sign an academic agreement with a major university in USA (University
of Mississippi at Hattisburg.) Currrently, we are the only Spanish
program in the city with this kind of agreement. We have also
made other academic agreements with other USA universities.
