Playa del Carmen hosts our medical Spanish program in Mexico. Playa del Carmen is a constantly growing beach town located 45 minutes south of Cancun along the stunning crystal blue coast of the Mayan Riviera.

Our Medical Spanish program focuses on providing Medical students with intensive medical Spanish courses combined with medical shadowing at a local Mayan clinic. The courses will be taught completely in Spanish and will help students develope everyday medical terminology as well as the tools needed to converse in a professional medical envrionment.

Medical Students in Mexico will also have the oppertunity to shadow at a local non-profit clinic that provides medical aid to those with lesser means in the Mayan community.

The Spanish school that hosts the medical Spanish courses will provide all medical students with a certificate of completion that will state the number of class contact hours they have completed as well as the number of hours of shadowing provided at the clinic.

Playa del Carmen provides a great site for a medical Spanish program considering its modern amenities and facilites. The town provides an interesting combination of modernity with its sprawling resorts, and upscale cafes and restaurants, along with local neighborhoods providing a unique look at everyday life in Mexico as well as the ancient Mayan culture.

Medical Spanish Course Options in Mexico

Option #1:
This medical Spanish program is offered throughout the year starting on any Monday. You must register for a minimum of 2 weeks. The Medical Spanish courses are offered through private instruction with 4 hours per day in the afternoon. In addition to medical Spanish classes you will also have 2 medical shadowing sessions each week totaling 4 hours. The medical shadowing will be scheduled in the morning when the clinic is in session for its patients.

Option #2:
This particular Medical Spanish program in Mexico includes Medical Spanish courses with 4 group lessons per day and no more than 4 students per group. All medical students will receive 2 shadowing sessons each week that will last 2 hours per day. Shadowing will take place in the morning with Medical Spanish courses taking place in the afternoon. This program is only offered for select dates so be sure to register far in advance to secure a spot.

Medical Shadowing

All Medical Spanish students will take part in 4 hours of of medical shadowing in Mexico each week at the clinic hosted by the non-profit organization Angel Notion. The name of the clinic is Centro de Medicina Alternativa Nicte-Ha. The major emphasis of the clinic is to instill preventative care into the communty using traditional and alternative medicine. The services are provided at a discounted cost for those that cannot afford normal care in the Mayan town of Nicte-Ha.

The clinic has established programs for prevention and education with specialties in dentistry, gynecology, diabetes, orthopedics pediatrics, optometry, cardiology, corrective surgery for deformities, nutrition and general care.

Students must bring a white lab coat and appropriate clothing to be worn during shadowing sessions. Students must follow the standard rules of the clinic and come in with an open mind to how different cultures handle medicinal practices. The clinic is located 10 minutes by bus from the Spanish school in the town of Nicte-Ha. There is a bus leaving every 5 minutes near the school and drops off right by the clinic. The cost is less than $1 each way. You can also opt to take a taxi at a higher cost.
