Panama City Sites Of Interest
Panama
City and the immediate surrounding area are full of things of
interest to see and do. Below is just a partial list of some of
the more well known things to see or do.
Panama Canal: Panama is world
famous for it, so you should definately check it out. Start off
with a visit to the Miraflores Locks. There is no entrance fee
and you can watch ships go through the locks. Next to the locks
themselves is the Miraflores Visitor Center. The museum provides
an excellent history of the canal. There is an entrance fee.
Please note
that additional info (prices, activities, etc) are found to the
right of this pages.
Panama City Tour: One of the
best way to get to know this city is by starting off with a city
tour. The tour will include all three major areas of the city.
Once you know where everything is you can then come back later
for a more in-depth exploration.
The Amador Causeway: This causeway
connects the north and south and provides some excellent views
of the Panama City skyline. Besides the great view you will find
shops, restaurants, a marina and a nice aquarium.
Panama
City Historic Tour: Panama City is an old city with a
rich history. If history is of interest to you, you must visit
Casco Viejo and Panama Vieja. Panama Vieja contains the ruins
of the original settlement in the area. Stop by the museum when
you are there. The Casco Viejo is another colonial area well worth
a visit. The buildings are fascinating and the whole area has
a nice feel to it.
The Nightlfe: If you are like
most people you enjoy going out. Guess what? So do Panamanians.
So if you want to have fun while at the same time getting to know
the locals go out and hit the numerous restaurants and clubs.
There is something there for everyone. The Spanish language school can direct you to
some nice ones, and other students will as well.
The Metropolitan Park: Don't
feel like leaving the city to see some rainforest? No problem.
Just go to the park. There you can take a guided tour of a rainforest
park located within a city. Not a bad way to spend a couple of
hours.
Monkey Island: This island is
actually located in the Panama Canal Zone. Take a day trip by
boat to the area and get the chance to see a variety of species
of monkeys on the island.
Embera Indian Village: Less
than 2 hours from the city lies the Embera Indian Village. It
is a great way to see how Native Indians in the region went about
their daily lives in the past.
Portobello: This is a quaint
town located on the Atlantic Coast. In colonial times it was an
important port. The day trip is very scenic and once in the area,
the coast and historic ruins are all very interesting.
Barro
Colorado Island: This is an island located in the Zone
as well. It is actually located in the center of a lake. The Smithsonian
Institute has a reasearch center on this island. A visit to this
place offers one the opportunity to see literally hundreds of
bird and animal species PLUS over a thousand different plant species.
A very worthwhile stop!
The above is just a small sampling of what Panama
City and the immediate surrounding area have to offer visitors.
We are sure you will be amazed by all the Panama and Panama City
has to offer.
