TRANSPORTATION IN PANAMA
Getting into Panama and then in and around the
cities and the country is actually pretty easy. Below we have
a general overview of what is available. The Spanish language
school will also assist you with any questions you may have once
you are Panama.
Please note
that additional info (prices, activities, etc) are found to the
right of this pages.
Road Conditions In Panama
If you have never driven in Central America be aware that it can
be overwhelming at first. First off many of the vehicles on the
roads are not very well maintained. This can make driving a little
hazardous. You will also note that Panamanians seem to be adverse
to the proper use of brakes, turn signals or just following the
rules of the road. This means you must be vigilant when driving
or even being a pedestrian along the side of a road.
By Plane: Your first stop will
be in Panama City at the Tocumen International Airport. Numerous
carriers from around the world have direct flights into Panama
City. So getting to Panama will not present any difficulty. As
always shop around for the best flight. From the airport there
is efficient taxi service that can take you anywhere you need
to go to.
Taxi Service: In a town of any
size you can find a taxi. In Panama City they are everywhere.
As such finding one is not a problem. Be aware of the fact that
a taxi meter is not typically used. Do not hope in a taxi get
to your destination and then try to figure out the price. You
must negotiate a price prior to leaving. Most locations in Panama
City by taxi should not cost more than $4-5.
Buses: On a day by day basis
buses are your best and cheapest way to get around Panama City
and Panama in general. The cost is very inexpensive by our standards.
Buses run throughout the city and the country on a regular basis.
Check with the school for the most up to date info on schedules.
Tours: On a day by day basis
you will not need to make use of tours to get around. For our
Spanish language students tours do come into play for weekend
excurions. While there are many places you can get to in Panama
that do not require a tour, certain activities are best done through
a tour. Check with our Spanish language school to see who they
recommend once you are in Panama.
