Group Spanish Immersion Program in
Morelia, Mexico
Morelia rests on a gentle sloping hill overlooking
the Valley of Guayangero and is without a doubt, one of Mexico's
colonial gems. Classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Artistic
sight Morelia offers visitors a wonderful cultural experience.
Combine this with a refreshing spring like climate throughout
the year, and you have a wonderful place in which to study Spanish
and discover Mexico.
Today Morelia is one of Mexico's most endearing
cities - wonderfully restful and clean with wide boulevards, lovely
squares, and shady parks. Architecturally, the city is of the
17th and 18th century Spanish colonial style. Morelia proudly
displays numerous masterfully restored mansions, churches, and
civic buildings, many of which are built with pink-colored stone
designed with lacy, delicate facades.
The city's layout is a classic grid design, with
a central square. Shopping, museums, and historic attractions
are within a few blocks of the square. It is a large city with
around 800,000 inhabitants but can be very accessible on foot
and the weather is quite pleasant throughout the year.
Baden Powell Institute
Baden-Powell Institute is a prestigious school
conscious of the needs of foreign language students. The institute
offers its students the opportunity to study Spanish in a friendly
atmosphere, and at the same time puts the students in touch with
the richness of Mexican culture.
The school, built in the architectural style
of Mexico, has 21 study rooms as well as patios, terraces, a computer
room with Internet and multimedia, a video room, recreational
areas, offices and restrooms. Due to its central location, all
sights of interest within Morelia are within walking distance.
Courses
Group Classes 3 Lessons per day (maximum 6 students
per class)
Students will have highly structured grammar
lessons, interactive activities, conversation and written exercises.
The classes are held completely in Spanish to provide a full immersion
environment. The teachers are trained to teach students from a
complete beginner to advanced levels using this approach. Supplemental
materials are used to aid in the process.
Accommodations
Mexican Host Family:
Students will live with local families in order to receive a full
immersion environment. This will allow them to practice their
Spanish in an everyday setting. The host family will provide 3
meals per day for the students which will allow for additional
time to practice their Spanish through conversations at meal time.
There will be up two students per bedroom and in all cases there
will be more than 2 students at one host family.
