Santo Domingo is an enchanting city of modern
sophistication, old world charisma, and Latin charm. In the capital
of the Dominican Republic, superb dining, fashionable shopping
and top class hotels, are set off by a rich colonial past evidenced
in the numerous museums and restored historic buildings. Santo
Domingo is the ideal spot for travelers interested in the old
and the new.
Many of the museums are located in the Plaza
de la Cultura, a large park area where visitors can stroll easily
from one museum to another. They include The Museum of the Dominican
Man, the Museum of Modern Art, the National Museum of History
and Geography, and the National Museum of Natural History. Visitors
will enjoy the fascinating look into the history of the Dominican
people including original Taino artifacts, information on the
Spanish conquerors, and the African slaves at the Museum of the
Dominican Man, as well as the impressive collection of modern
art that gives a new dimension into Dominican society at the Museum
of Modern Art.
Santo Domingo is large enough to provide endless
entertainment as well as a quaint atmosphere in the colonial district
for groups to feel secure.
Hispaniola Academia Caribe de Lenguas
Spanish Language School
Hispaniola Academia Caribe de Lenguas was founded
in 1996. In a short time Hispaniola has become recognized as one
of the best language schools in the country. The school itself
is located in the heart of the charming Colonial District of Santo
Domingo. The building used by the school is a recently restored
colonial building perfectly suited for language instruction and
just minutes from most sites of interest in Santo Domingo.
Courses
Group Classes 3 Lessons per Day
The school’s teaching method takes full
account of modern didactics and is oriented toward the "Foreign
Language Concept of the Council of Europe", observing all
instructions that the Real Academia de la Lengua recommends. They
use the Direct Method and at school, like during free time, spoken
language is emphasized from the first day on. At all levels, only
Spanish will be spoken.
Accommodations
Dominican Host Family:
Students will live with local families in order to receive a full
immersion environment. This will allow them to practice their
Spanish in an everyday setting. The host family will provide 3
meals per day for the students which will allow for additional
time to practice their Spanish through conversations at meal time.
There will be up two students per bedroom and in all cases there
will be more than 2 students at one host family.
