Group Spanish Immersion Program in Sevilla, Spain

Sevilla is one of the "must see" locations in Spain due to its mild Mediterranean climate and rich culture, which embodies the true essence of life which Andalusia is world famous for. This city, with its beautiful whitewashed buildings, small balconies overflowing with geraniums, countless historic buildings and quiet winding streets, is an ideal place to learn Spanish.

From a historical standpoint, Sevilla is exceedingly rich. For example, the Cathedral, built in the 1400's is perhaps the most impressive Gothic cathedral in the Christian world. It adjoins an Almohad Tower, called the Giralda, which originally was the minaret of the Great Mosque. This 300 foot high tower, which has become a symbol of the city, is topped by an active carillon and a statue of "Holy Faith," which was added after the Christian Reconquest. Across the plaza from the Cathedral stands the Alcázar, an impressive 10th century palace complex. The palace contains excellent examples of both Moorish and Christian architecture. Beyond these two sites, the city contains many other historic sites of interest, all very much worth a visit.

Courses

Group Classes 4 lessons per day

The lessons at the CLIC are lively and varied. All the classes are divided into distinct blocks: the first deals with the language itself, the structures and communicative functions. The second part deals with concrete cultural themes in order to develop all the abilities or skills integrally: oral expression, aural understanding, writing and reading comprehension. The classes do not progress in a rapid straight line, rather globally and in depth.

Accommodations

Spanish Host Family:
Students will live with local families in order to receive a full immersion environment. They will be no more than 20 minutes walking distance from the school. This will allow them to practice their Spanish in an everyday setting. The host family will provide 3 meals per day. There will be up two students per bedroom and in all cases there will be more than 2 students at one host family.

  Full Day Excursion to one of the following:
  Cadiz / Jerez –a visit to the Gonzalez Byass sherry vineyard, the Royal Palaces, Mosque and Arab baths and then a guided tour around the centre of Cadiz, the oldest city in Western Europe and afternoon on the beach.

  Cordoba –The visit includes a guided tour around the centre, the Synagogue, the Christian Royal Palace, the Jewish quarter and the Mosque.

  Antequera – day excursion to this town, which is also in the Malaga hills. We will visit the Giant’s Arch, College of Santa Maria and the Carmen Church before taking the bus up to the Torcal, which is one of the most important natural parks in the area. There we will visit the information centre, which explains how the park was formed as well as walk along one of the paths.
