Barcelona
(3 day weekend)
Barcelona,
the capital of Catalonia, is located on the Mediterranean coast
and is less than 150 kilometers from the Pyrenees Mountain range.
Barcelona's location on the Mediterranean shore means that it
enjoys a warm, welcoming climate, and pleasant temperatures all
year round. Rainfall is occasionally heavy, which helps to maintain
the many green parks around the city. Architecture by Gaudi and
other modernist Architects dominate the cityscape. A good way
to see the best of this amazing turn of the century architecture
is to follow the Ruta del Modernism. Las Ramblas and the surrounding
area is the center of all the action: clubs, bars, restaurants,
and shopping. Of course one must not forget the beaches!

night train has sleeping cabins.
Madrid
No
visit to Spain is complete without a visit to Madrid the capital
of Spain. Justa quick 2 and a half hour bus ride from Salamanca,
Madrid offers world-class museums, nightlife, architecture, and
a happening cosmopolitan atmosphere. Start your city tour at the
Plaza del Sol the zero kilometer marker from which all roads in
Spain converge. Take in the amazing Parque del Buen Retiro or
check out the Museo del Prado, which is home to the essential
Spanish works of art from Velazquez, Goya, to El Greco. One could
spend weeks seeing all the sites that Madrid has to offer so make
a plan and stick to it.

Porto, Portugal
Porto
is located at the mouth of the Rio Douro and it is the second
largest city after Lisbon. The quarter around the riverside known
as the Ribeira is full of narrow twisting streets with houses
painted or tiled in colourful facades. This area is full of the
bustling energy of working people during the day and the liveliness
of busy tascas and restaurants at night. Porto has gained world-famous
acclaim for its sugary-sweet wine called Port. For interested
port or wine lovers take a stroll down the Douro River for wine
tasting tours at the local wine distilleries.

to get there from Salamanca: Hop on the train to Medina
del Campo switch trains at Guillarei and then from there take
it to Porto.
San Sebastian (3 day weekend)
San
Sebastian is one of the most fashionable and popular Spanish seasideresorts
made impressive with its spectacular views of La Concha Bay. Summers
here are perfect for taking advantage of the warm sunny weather
on the beach or relaxing to the tunes of the international Jazz
Festival in mid-July.
