The University of Salamanca trimester program
offers beginner, intermediate, advanced, and superior Spanish
language and culture courses. All the professors of the course
are from the University of Salamanca and all are native Spanish
speakers. The student body attending courses at the University
of Salamanca come from all over the world. So while you are studying,
learning Spanish, and meeting local students, you will also be
interacting with people from all over the world!
Upon arrival in Salamanca all students will
be given a placement test to determine the proper language proficiency
level for each student. IMPORTANT
NOTE: The University of Salamanca decision for class placement
is FINAL regardless of the
background of the student and their expectations. Only those students
that test out at the Superior level will be able to take University
classes with local Spanish students. In other words, if you cannot
speak Spanish at a very high level how can you expect to sit in
(for example) a history class with native Spanish speakers and
get anything out of it?
Required Courses
For all students (regardless of the level placement
test) there are 3 hours of required classes. The first two hours
consist of Spanish grammar and the third hour will focus on communication
and vocabulary building. These classes are very intensive and
designed to teach students Spanish in a very short period of time.
More information towards the bottom of this page.
Elective Courses
Beginners will have the option to take two hours
of electives (in addition to the 3 hours of required classes)
focusing on the Spanish language as noted in the table below.
Students that tested out at an intermediate or higher level of
Spanish will have the opportunity to take up to two hours of electives
(in addition to the 3 hours of required classes). Electives offered
will focus on art, history, culture, literature, oral and written
skills. Students will be evaluated on daily oral and written exercises,
classroom participation, a mid-term exam, and a final exam. Once
you have arrived at the school, there will not be ANY refunds
for ANY reason. If you chose to reduce the amount of hours
you would like to take, you will NOT be refunded!!!
