All activities are scheduled for the dates and times listed
below, but are subject to change do the weather conditions or
other circumstances beyond our control. In case of a tour or
activity being changed, it will be rescheduled. If a tour or
activity must be cancelled and cannot be made up, there will
be no refund.
Sunday, July 27th
9am – 4pm – WELCOME! Students arrive
in Liberia and are taken to the beautiful Hotel Luna Llena.
There will be time to relax, settle in and get orientated. Lunch is available for students arriving in the morning. (Vegetarian meals options are always available
7pm - Welcome to Costa Rica Dinner at the Pasa Tiempo Restaurant
with typical Costa Rican food and entertainment.
9pm – After dinner, students and staff
will have time to get to know each other and go over the rules
of the camp. We will do some activities that will introduce
us to one another.
Monday, July 28th
7am – Wake up
7:30am – Breakfast
8:30am –Art Lessons Begin. Students will gather together with the art teachers, John Brosio and Richard Godfrey, who will split them up into two groups. Students will then be issued their art equipment and supplies. The lessons will begin at 9am. The first session will last for one hour and twenty minutes. There will be a short break for drinks and snacks. For the second session, the instructors will switch and teach the other group. This session will also be one hour and twenty minutes long and end at 12 noon. This will be followed by a short free time for students to return to their rooms, swim or just relax.
12:30pm
–Lunch. Each day we will walk down to the beach to the El Pescador restaurant to eat. There will be a set selection of options from the menu available each day. There will always be at least two vegetarian options along with chicken, beef, pasta, salads and sandwiches. After the first week, new options will be added to the menu. Bottled water will be supplied to each table and students will have the choice of one fruit drink or soda. After lunch students will have free time to swim or hang out at the beach or return to the hotel and swim in the pool.
2:00pm –Spanish Classes begin. Students will meet at the school where they will be given a Spanish evaluation to determine their ability in the language. They will be given a written evaluation and complete, along with a one-on-one meeting with our Director of the Spanish program. From this, students will split up into their groups and begin classes. Classes will be conducted entirely in Spanish. This method of learning is called total immersion and is used to get the students speaking and thinking in the target language. There will be in-class activities and out of class field trips. Each day, classes will be for three hours with a short break in the middle.
5:30pm Return to the hotel where students will have time to relax and swim.
7:00pm Dinner. We will all meet at a local restaurant in the center of town where students will order off the menu. The head counselor will have a chance to meet with each student to find out how everything is going and to field questions.

Tuesday, July 29th
7am – Wake up
7:30am – Breakfast at the hotel
8:30am – Art Lessons.
12:30pm – Lunch in town at El Pescador

5:30pm – Return to hotel rooms with time

Friday, August 1st
6am – Wake up
6:30am – Breakfast at hotel
7am
– Art Lessons. Class will be held at a local animal sanctuary and rescue center.
11am – Lunch at nearby restaurant
12:30pm – Spanish Classes
3:30pm – Arenal Volcano Weekend Trip. We will travel by private coach from Tamarindo to the town of La Fortuna at the slopes of the famous Arenal Volcano. Arenal is famous for being consistently active with eruptions averaging one every 45 minutes. On clear nights it is possible to see the red hot rocks rolling down the side of the cone creating a natural fireworks display. Along the way we will stop for dinner.
7:30pm – Arrival in La Fortuna. We will check into the Bali Hot Springs Resort. After time to get settled in we will all meet at the hotel’s restaurant where we will have snacks and time to go over the weekends plans. Followed by time to hang out at the hot springs and swim.
10pm – Curfew
Saturday, August 2nd
6am – Wake up for River Rafting on the Rio Toro.
Students are picked up at about 6:30 am and transported by bus to the Rio Pacuare. Along the way there is a stop for breakfast at a country restaurant. At the river, students receive a half an hour of training in how to raft, along with safety tips and emergency procedures. Once on the river, students will experience some of the best rafting in Costa Rica over class two and three rapids. This is the perfect trip for both beginners and seasoned rafters alike. The countryside and deep gorges are awesome. The total time on the river is about five hours with a stop in the middle for a picnic lunch. After the ride is finished, there will be an opportunity for students to purchase photos of the day’s rafting. Students will return to the hotel around 4 pm followed by free time to relax at the hot springs.
7pm - Dinner at the resort restaurant.
8:30 pm – Visit to a local under 18 night club where students can meet local teenagers and dance.
10pm – Curfew
Sunday, August 3rd
8:30am – Breakfast at the hotel.
9am – Zip Lining. Here students will be fitted with harnesses and repelling gear for zip lining through the forest canopy. They will hike through trails in the forest as well as along suspended bridges to get to the first platform. From there they will travel to 8 different platforms connected by steel lines. They will see many different birds and animals, including sloths, monkeys (both Howlers and White Faced), toucans, parrots and others. They will have bilingual guides and they will be instructed in all safety issues and equipment function. They will also learn about the forest ecosystem and flora.
12pm – Lunch at restaurant near the Arenal Volcano and Lake National Park with views over the water of the mountain.
1:00pm – Students will return to the resort for free time at the hot springs.
2:30pm –Return to Playa Tamarindo by private coach.
7:30pm – Dinner at Hotel Luna Llena.
10pm – Curfew.

7am – Wake up
7:30am – Breakfast at the hotel
8:30am – Art Lessons..
12:30pm – Lunch in town at El Pescador

Wednesday, August 6th
6am – Breakfast
6:30am – Meet at beach for surfing or swimming.
7am - Art Lessons
10am – Return to the hotel to change into their swimming
10:30pm– Surf Lessons. Students will be taught how to surf from the beginning on the sand by professional surf instructors. Students of all different levels will be instructed in the art of surfing. Surf boards will be provided for all students during the lesson.
1pm – Lunch at beach front restaurant Witch’s Rock
2:30pm – Spanish Classes
5:30pm – Return to hotel rooms with free time
7:30pm – Dinner at local house with set menu and live music.
10pm – Curfew
Thursday, August 7
7am – Wake up
7:30am – Breakfast at the hotel
8:30am – Art Lessons at nearby bird sanctuary
12:30pm – Lunch in town at El Pescador
restaurant.
2:30pm – Spanish Classes.
5:30pm – Return to hotel rooms with free time
7:30pm – Dinner at the hotel restaurant
9pm – Return to hotel followed by free time.

Friday, August 8th
6:30am – Wake up
7am – Breakfast at the hotel
7:30am – Art Lessons
10:30pm - Meet at main beach to participate in a Beach Clean up Project to give back to the community. There will also be time to swim, surf and shop from the local artisans.
12:30pm – Lunch in town at El Pescador
restaurant.
2:30pm – Spanish classes followed by a Graduation Ceremony with the teachers and staff.
5:30pm – Return to hotel rooms with free time
8pm – Farewell to Costa Rica Dinner at a local restaurant.
10pm – Curfew
Saturday, August 9th
6am to 9am Breakfast
Students will be transported to the airport as their flight
times dictate. A staff member will drive with them up to the
airport and see that they get checked into their flight and
through to the correct gate. Since students will be flying out
at different times throughout the day, there will also be a
staff member remaining at the hotel. If students fly out in
the afternoon or evening, they will receive lunch and/or dinner.
