| Malaga
is an ideal city in Spain for teens to learn Spanish during the summer if they
enjoy large cities and a beautiful beach environment. Malaga is the
largest city and capital of Spain's prized Costa del Sol. Malaga
carries a sophisticated atmosphere and is home to the Picasso
art museum. As a modern city and popular tourist destination,
Malaga provide a great mixing of cultures with a warm local presence
for a teen to practice Spanish outside the classroom setting.
The Spanish language school that hosts the teen
Spanish program in Malaga, Spain during the summer months is located in the residential
area of Malaga called Pedregalejo. Pedregalejo was once a typical fishing
village and is now a great area for teens to stoll on the beach, go shopping, swimming,
and sunbathing.
The Spanish language school building was renovated
in 2000 and lies only a few meters from the beaches on the Mediterranean.
The current teen language school's facilities include 9 class rooms, computers with internet
access, and several sunny terraces for breaks from Spanish class.
All classrooms include air conditioning which is a great relief
during the hot summers in southern Spain.
Malaga Teen Program Spanish
Courses
Each day the teen Spanish classes in Malaga are split
between formal class room instruction and application of Spanish
language in every day scenarios. These different sections are
known as Grammar and Vocabulary; and Practical activities as described
below.
Practical
Activities (10 lessons per week):
Learning every day Spanish is the most important part of a Spanish
Immersion Program. The practical activity portion of the teen Spanish
course is designed to reinforce Spanish grammar and vocabulary
that is learned in the classroom and allowing the teens to interact in everyday situations outside of the classroom. These
practical Spanish applications help the teen develop reading,
writing and oral skills in the Spanish language. The practical
activities include visits to stores, markets, business, the beach,
and difference sections of the city. Teens prepare for the
practical activities beforehand in the classroom incorporating
the vocabulary and phrases they are learning in the other portion
of the course. The Spanish teacher leads the activities
and teens work in pairs. The activities are completed with
a class report and group discussion.
Grammar and Vocabulary
(10 lessons per week):
The formal classroom summer Spanish lessons give the teens all of
the basic Spanish vocabulary and Spanish grammar tools that they
may need to communicate outside of class, and in their daily life
living with a host family.. Spanish Vocabulary is presented with
brief explanations of grammatical concepts and structural exercises.
Each Spanish lesson focuses on day-to-day conversations that a teen would encounter outside of the classroom, with their friends,
or their Spanish host family.
Teen
Spanish Program Activities and Excursions
The
Malaga teen Spanish immersion program includes a variety of activities
for all Spanish students in the summer. These activities are provided as a means
of teaching students about the local culture of Malaga and Spain. They also create an environment outside of the Spanish courses for the
students to practice their Spanish. During their free time students
will take part in sports on the beach, visits to museums, and
city tours.
The
weekends also have time designated for exxcursions. One excursion
is planned for every weekend inbetween summer teen program weeks. Students
must sign up for at least two weeks to take part in an excursion.
The excursions included in the teen Spanish program in Malaga consist
of guided tours of differ cities in Andalucia and typical southern
white towns which are so called due to their predominantly white-washed
buildings, which create a spectacular effect in the bright sunlight
of Southern Spain.
