2008 Puerto Escondido
Puerto Escondido
All activities are scheduled for the dates and
times listed below, but are subject to change do the weather conditions
or other circumstances beyond our control. In case of a tour or
activity being changed, it will be rescheduled. If a tour or activity
must be cancelled and cannot be made up, there will be no refund.
Saturday, August 2nd
9am – 4pm – WELCOME! Students arrive
in Huatulco, Mexico and are taken to the hotel Santa Fe in Puerto Escondido.
There will be time to relax, settle in and swim.
6pm - Welcome to Mexico Dinner at the hotel’s restaurant
with typical Mexican food and entertainment.
8pm – After dinner, students will all meet
together for introductions, group-building activities and games.
All of the rules of the program will be gone over.
10pm - Curfew
Sunday, August 3rd
6am – Wake up
6:30am – Breakfast at hotel restaurant
7:30am – River Rafting on the Rio Copalita.
Students are picked up at about 7:30 am and transported
by private motor coach to the Hamaca section of the Rio Copalita.
The transport will take about an hour and a half. At the river,
students receive a half an hour of training on how to raft, along
with safety tips and emergency procedures. Once on the river,
students will experience some of the best rafting in Mexico over
class II and III rapids. This is the perfect trip for both beginners
and seasoned rafters alike. The countryside and deep gorges are
awesome. The total time on the river is about five hours with
a stop in the middle for a picnic lunch. After the ride is finished,
there will be an opportunity for students to shower and change
clothes.
3:30pm – Students will transported directly
to Puerto Escondido by private motor coach.
5:30 p.m. – Arrival at Hotel Santa Fe
7:30pm – Dinner at local restaurant
9pm – Return to Hotel
Monday, August 4th
7am – Breakfast at the hotel
8am – Surf Lessons! Students that already
are experienced surfers will be shown the different breaks and
the individual characteristics of the beach and surf. Instructors
will take these students out and see that they get comfortable
in the new surroundings. All other students will be taught how
to surf from the beginning on the sand. Students who have not
brought their own boards will be provided with one.
12:30pm – Lunch at a beachfront restaurant.
2pm – Spanish Classes begin. Students
will be given an oral and written evaluation to determine their
class assignments. They will then be split up into their groups
and begin classes. Classes will last until 5pm.
5pm – Return to hotel with time to swim
at the pool
7pm – Dinner at the hotel restaurant
8:30pm – After dinner, time to do homework,
explore the hotel grounds and swim in the pool.
10:00pm – Curfew
Tuesday, August 5th
7am – Breakfast at the hotel
8am – Meet at the beach to continue surf
lessons. Experienced surfers will again go out with instructors
and beginners will continue with their lessons.
12:30pm – Lunch back at the hotel
2:pm – Spanish classes
5:pm – Free time to hang out at the beach
or return to hotel to swim or study Spanish.
7:30pm – Dinner at a local restaurant.
9pm – Return to hotel
10:00pm – Curfew
Wednesday, August 6th
6:30am – Breakfast at the hotel
7am – Playa Estacahuite Snorkeling Tour,
Students will be transported down the coast about an hour to one
of the very best snorkeling beaches in Mexico. This small 300
foot wide beach has calm water which is perfect for seeing the
tropical fish and the local reef. There will also be time to swim,
sunbath and explore. All snorkeling equipment is included, but
those who wish to bring their own gear are welcome to. After the snorkeling students will have a chance to surf.
12:30pm – Lunch at a restaurant in town
2pm – Spanish classes
5pm – Relax until dinner
7:30pm – Dinner at the hotel followed by
free time and study period until lights out.
10pm. – Curfew
Thursday, August 7th
7am – Breakfast at the hotel
8am – Once again students will meet at
the beach for their final surf lessons.
12:30pm – Lunch at hotel followed by free
time.
2pm – Spanish classes
5pm – Time to do homework and relax until
dinner.
7:30pm – Dinner at a local beachfront restaurant.
9pm – Return to hotel
10pm – Curfew
Friday, August 8th
8am – Breakfast at the hotel
9am – Depending on surf conditions we will go to one of the other six beaches in Puerto for surfing or swimming.
12pm – Lunch at a local restaurant
2pm – Spanish classes
5pm – Free time to stay in town or return
to the hotel.
7:30pm – Dinner at the hotel
9pm – Free time to hang out at the hotel
or go into town as a group.
11pm - Curfew
Saturday, August 9th
7am – Breakfast at the hotel
8am – Depart by bus from the hotel for
the Chacagua Weekend Tour. The final part of the transport will
be done by boat, since the lodge is only accessible by the water.
12:30pm – Lunch at the beach front lodge
and time to get settled in.
1:30pm – The afternoon will be filled with
different activities, such as soccer, volleyball and hikes into
the surrounding countryside. The area is a wildlife refuge so
there is a great deal of flora and fauna. The ocean is teaming
with numerous species of colorful fish, and in the forests are
many types of birds including pelicans, herons and cormorants.
There will also be time to swim or relax at the beach.
7pm –. Dinner at the lodge
8:30pm – Bonfire on the beach after dinner
with music and games, feel free to bring an instrument if you
play!
11pm- Curfew
Sunday, August 10th
8am – Breakfast at the lodge.
9am – The morning activities will be kayaking,
surfing and snorkeling. The group will be split into two and each
student will have a chance to participate in all three.
1pm – Picnic lunch on the beach followed
by more time to swim, surf and snorkel.
2:30 – Return to Puerto Escondido by boat
and bus. Get settled back into Hotel Santa Fe.
7:30pm – Dinner at hotel
10pm – Curfew
Monday, August 11th
8am – Breakfast at the hotel
9am – Meet at beach for surfing or swimming.
12pm – Lunch at a local restaurant
2pm – Spanish classes
5pm –Return to the hotel for homework and
to relax.
6pm – Dinner at the hotel.
7pm – Turtle Observation Tour. Students
will be transported to the Barra de Navidad Nature Preserve where
the Colotepec river flows into the sea. Here students will be
able to witness mother turtles laying their eggs, as well as newly
hatched baby turtles making their way to the ocean. If necessary,
students will have the opportunity to help the mothers and newborns.
10pm – Return to the hotel for curfew.
Tuesday, August 12th
8am – Breakfast at the hotel
9am – Meet at beach for surfing or swimming.
12pm – Lunch at the hotel
2pm – Spanish classes
5pm – Free time to study, swim and relax.
7:30pm – Dinner at a local restaurant.
8:30pm – Free time to stay in town as a
group or go back to the hotel.
10pm - Curfew
Wednesday, August 13th
6:30am –Breakfast at the hotel
7am – Waterfall Finca Santa Fe Tour, Upon
arrival by private motor coach, students will take off on a hike
through the countryside to one of the areas most beautiful waterfalls.
The hike will take about an hour and half. Once at the waterfall
students will have a chance to swim, jump into the pool and explore
the surrounding area. After returning to the main base camp, students
will be given an authentic country Mexican lunch. After the meal,
students will be transported back to Puerto Escondido.
2pm – Spanish classes
5pm – Relax until dinner
7:30pm – Dinner at the hotel followed by
free time and study period until lights out.
10pm. – Curfew
Thursday, August 14th
8am – Breakfast at the hotel
9am – Meet at beach for surfing or swimming.
12pm – Lunch at the hotel
2pm – Spanish classes
5pm – Free time to stay in town or return
to the hotel.
7:30pm – Dinner at a local restaurant.
8:30pm – Free time to stay in town as a
group or go back to the hotel.
10pm - Curfew
Friday, August 15th
7am –Breakfast at the hotel
8am – Atotonilco Horseback and Hot Springs
Tour. Students will be transported a short distance out of town
up into the coastal hills. Once they arrive, they will be assigned
horses to match their riding ability. Once everyone is comfortable,
they will ride up along side the Rio Manialtepec for about an
hour. During the ride, students will cross back and forth across
the river and pass through a fantastic forested landscape. Upon
arrival at the hot springs, students will have time to bathe and
swim as well as explore the area. After spending more than an
hour at the springs, students will ride back to the embarkation
point and return to Puerto Escondido.
12:30pm – Lunch at a local restaurant.
2pm – Spanish classes
5pm – Relax until dinner
7:30pm – Farewell to Mexico Dinner at the
hotel followed by free time to stay at the hotel or go as a group
into town.
11pm. – Curfew
Saturday, August 16th
8am – Breakfast
9am – Free time to swim or get in one last
surf session at the beach.
12pm – Lunch at the hotel.
1pm – Check out and depart by private motor
coach back to Huatulco and the international airport.
5:30pm – Depart by airline back to the
US and end of program.
