| The
Spanish language school that hosts the Junior Spanish program
in Tarragona, Spain was opened in 1980. The school building is
on a broad tree-lined avenue (the Rambla) in the very centre of
Tarragona. The Spanish school in Tarragona is spread over two
floors of a typical town house and there are 10 spacious classrooms
as well as a study area and students’ lounge for the high
school Spanish students. The language school also offers English
classes to students from Spain throughout the year and Spanish
courses for high school students in the summer. im
The Spanish school for high
school students offers modern classrooms combined with a computer
room where connection to the Internet provides Spanish students
with access to their email while in Spain. There is also a large
selection of books, cassettes and other supplementary materials
at each level for self-study to help students develop their Spanish
language skills. Video and satellite TV facilities are also available
in the comfortable lounge area and many of the original version
films have explanatory notes.
The
Spanish language school offers an excellent Junior Summer School
option for high school Spanish students ages 13-17 years. The
Junior program offers 3 Spanish lessons per day (Monday through
Friday) of small group Spanish language instruction classes with
6-12 students per class, a varied social/cultural program 4 afternoons
a week including sports, cultural visits, parties, films and days
at the beach.
The timetable is usually from
9:30 to 13:00 (in high season from 14.00-17.30 also) Monday to
Friday with a variety of different teachers. The format of instruction
is identical to that of the Spanish program for adults.

Accommodations for Teens
in Spain
Teen Spanish students have
the option to chose between staying with local Spanish host families
or the Spanish School Student Residence. Both options provide
students with 3 meals per day. These accommodations are shared
room.
Host Families will change the
high school student's bed linen and towels once per week. They
will also provide basic laundry facilities. Some of the host families
live within walking distance of the Spanish language school. However,
in many cases it will be necessary for the students to take a
bus from their family to the Spanish school. A 30-day student
bus pass, which allows four journeys per day, is included in the
course fee.
Sant
Jordi Residence: The Sant Jordi student residence for teens
is located in the city centre, less than 10 minutes walk the Spanish
School. The residence, which provides accommodation throughout
the academic year to students from the University of Tarragona,
was opened in 1998 and is very well maintained. Accommodation
is available in double or triple rooms with sheets and towels
provided. The bedrooms are equipped with wardrobes, writing desks
and chairs, desk lamps, bookcases and mirrors. Facilities that
are available free to students include a TV lounge, a computer
room, separate study rooms, and a gymnasium. Washing machines
are also available for a small charge. The High School Students
are provided with a key to their room and to the front door of
the residence so that they can come and go as they please.. There
is a 24-hour reception service for the teens enrolled in the Junior
Program in Tarragona, Spain

Arriving in Tarragona, Spain
The Spanish school provides transportation upon
arrival and departure from the Barcelona airport. We must have
the arrival details for your teen at least 2 weeks prior to their
arrival to arrange airport pickup and drop off.
Supervision for Junior Program Students
The
Junior Spanish program in Spain provides a moderate amount of
supervision for Spanish students. High School Students will have
a curfew of 23:30 all nights except on Saturday when it is extended
to 00:30. The host families and staff at the residences will enforce
the curfew. There will be times when teen students are NOT supervised
by members of the staff at the Spanish school. High school students
attending the Junior program in Tarragona, Spain are expected
to be mature and responsible enough to be able to handle themselves
appropriately in a foreign country. Spanish students are expected
to abide by the Spanish school rules and any violations will result
in immediate dismissal from the Junior program.
