We encourage you to take advantage of the homestay
program because it both reinforces classroom instruction and motivates
you by offering you the opportunity to speak Spanish in real life
situations. This type of interaction will help you learn Spanish
faster and more easily than would be possible if you were to stay
in a hotel. It's also an economical option which can include two
meals a day. Many of the host families that the Spanish language
school employs have worked with them since the Spanish school
was founded. The families know from experience what the role of
a host is.
Homestays can be a 20-45 minute bus ride away
from the school. Families offer a private room, linens, and towels.
You may choose a program either with breakfast and dinner daily,
or no meals. Some hosts may allow access to their laundry facilities;
otherwise you will be directed to the nearest Laundromat.
Nowhere else will you directly experience real
Puerto Rican life and nothing could be better to help improve
your language skills. It is obvious that you will have to adjust
a little to the rules of the house. Apart from that, you are free
to do what you want. You will be given your own keys, so you can
come and go as you please. You will be able to receive phone calls
at home.
