The Spanish language school uses the Communicative
Approach to Spanish language learning. The focus of this approach
is to learn to speak Spanish in meaningful contexts that one may
encounter in real-life situations. Spanish instructors establish
situations that promote communication and practice in all four
language-learning skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing.
In every Spanish class, students move from what
they already know in structured practices, to less-structured
and finally open activities. This process ensures that students
have both knowledge of the grammatical structures and that they
can master the Spanish language in communicative situations.
Please note
that additional info (prices, activities, etc) are found to the
right of this pages.
The Spanish program also incorporates a cultural
understanding of Latin America from the standpoint of Puerto Rico
and it’s 500 year old Hispanic inheritance. Using proven
materials such as books, videos, and music we enhance the students’
class.
Overall the Spanish language school has 6 Spanish
language levels: Introductory I,
Introductory II, Basic I, Basic II, Intermediate & Advanced.
Each curriculum level is organized around central themes that
touch upon real-life situations such as: At
the Workplace, Leisure Activities, In the Restaurant, Travel &
Vacations, etc. Each theme is broken down into functions
(the things that students must do with the language), grammar
and vocabulary. The Spanish instructor will conduct practices
in class for students to practice the functions, incorporating
the vocabulary and grammar needed to complete those functions.
Course instruction is conducted 5 days a week,
4 hours per day (if you are the only one at your level you will
receive 3 private hours daily). Classes will be held Monday-Friday
10:00am-2:00pm. Evaluations will be conducted at the end
of each week to track student progress. Maximum group enrollment
is 6 students, the average being 3 per group. Textbooks are not
included in the cost of the program, but may be signed out with
a major credit card for the duration of your program.
