SEMESTER PROGRAM OVERVIEW
Thank you for taking the first step towards studying
abroad for a semester at one of our partner Universities or private
Spanish language schools. On the following pages you will find
information about the semester programs including information
about the various Universities, Spanish language schools, the
courses offered, and of course, information about the city and
the country where you will be studying. In addition to this information
we encourage you to contact our offices at any time to speak directly
to one of our advisors. Remember, the more questions you ask,
the better prepared you will be for your trip.
A Little About Spanish Abroad,
Inc.
Currently Spanish Abroad, Inc. is one of the
recognized leaders in language study abroad programs in North
America. Each year we send thousands of individuals to countries
throughout Latin America & Spain. While most of these students
study at private language schools, we have many students that
would prefer to study in a University setting during their Semester
program. Each University and private language school is carefully
selected in order to make sure our clients receive a quality educational
and study abroad experience.
Cost
As you compare the cost of our study abroad Semester programs
vs our competitors you will notice that we charge in many cases
thousands less for the same
study abroad program(s) at the same universities or Spanish schools.
At the University of Salamanca for example, our cost can literally
be $150-300 less per week for the same exact
program that our competitors offer.
So ask yourself
this very important question: Why pay one of our competitors
literally hundreds and in many cases thousands of dollars more
to go to the same university or Spanish school, take the same
classes, stay with the same families, get the same amount of credit,
and have the same experience? We don't think you should.
Going with Spanish Abroad, Inc. will save you
money which means you have MORE money to spend once you are studying
abroad.
Think about it. Why pay more?
Why are the other competitors so much
more expensive?
In their programs in most cases they may offer
excursions and have a person on-site. We feel that the cost of
an excursion plus having a person on-site does not justify these
extra costs. In most cases the actual cost of these excursions
range between $25-50.
What about the person on-site that our
competitors have?
One reason our competitors charge more is because
they have a person on-site. In talking with people who have taken
these Semester abroad programs in the past we find that most people
do not even see these on-site coordinators on a regular basis
except for organizing their trips. Their comments were that going
different places within a country is very easy to set up on your
own (or with the help of the University study abroad office or
Spanish school directors) and very inexpensive. More importantly,
when going on these organized trips you are not interacting with
locals, rather you are in a group of Americans.
We find that students who choose our study abroad programs get
to know the local students and end up doing things with them...which
is what we think is the point of studying abroad. Meet new people,
learn a culture and learn a language while studying at the university
or Spanish school.
Study Abroad Office
We would also like to point out that each of
the Universities where we send students have a study abroad program office.
They have bilingual staff there to help you with classes, accommodations,
or just general questions about the city or the country. In Costa
Rica, for example, the staff in the study abroad office also helps
students book tours around the city and the country. With the
support you get from our office plus the staff of each universities
study abroad office you will have everything you need to have
an enjoyable and productive academic experience abroad. Since
you have these resources as part of your semester study abroad
program, we feel that paying extra to have another "on-site"
person is not worth the extra cost. Save your money and use the
services provided by our offices and of course the university
staff at the office for study abroad.
In sum our semester study abroad programs are less
expensive because we don't add in a lot of items that you can
easily do on your own, or with people you meet at the university
you are studying at. Because you are paying less to us you have
MORE money to spend when you
are abroad. Feedback from our students has been very positive
in this aspect...especially when they see what the "other"
students are getting when going with one of our competitors.
