| Thanks
to the olympic games in 1992 and the massive cleaning operation
of the olympic marina, Barcelona's beaches have been attracting
a lot of visitors every year. Apart from being very clean the
beaches offer several facilities including disabled access, beach
lifeguards, sun beds, tents, umbrellas and showers.
Nova Icaria is a popular and crowded beach close
to the Olympic marina. It has good beachside bars, restaurants
and a nice long promenade.
Bogatell
Beach is lined by a long stretch of stone walkway excellent
for jogging, roller blading and cycling. There are not many restaurants
and its a peaceful location to spend a relaxing evening on the
sand.
Mar Bella Beach
is popular for watersports like windsurfing, hobie cats and kayaks.
This is also a calm beach with a beautiful park with great spots
for picnic or family get togethers.
Barceloneta Beach
is wide and long, lined with bars and restaurants serving multiple
cuisines including American. This beach is very popular with the
locals and is consequently crowded, noisy and very jolly.
Casteldefells
just south of Barcelona and easily accessible from Barcelona which
makes it crowded.
There are several beaches a bit further away
from Barcelona with more relaxed atmospheres great to get away
from the bustle of the beaches in the city. Beaches to the south
of Barcelona are wider and longer whose shallow water makes them
safer for children, while the beaches to the north are usually
prettier and deeper with bigger waves great for surfing and other
water sports.
El
Garraf Beach has good facilities. The town s a popular gay resort
with a couple of nudist beaches. The main sandy beach is where
the crowds throng but a short walk around the corner there is
a pretty cove which is less hectic.
Vilanova, Ocata, Caldetes, Tossa de Mar, San
Feliu de Guixols, Platja d'Aro and Sa Conca Beach are a few other
beaches worth visiting.
