Montserrat
Monestir
de Montserrat is a monastery, known as the holiest place in the
entire region of Catalonia. The monastery is located atop Montserrat.
The monastery dates back to the 9th century. It was destroyed
in the War of Independence against the French and later rebuilt.
Public access to the monastery is possible via a cable car that
provides an excellent view of the countryside below including
the small chapels on every peak of the mountain range.
Figueras
Figueres
is a small town a couple of hours drive away from Barcelona. The
main tourism attraction here is Dali's museum, full of his surrealist
masterpieces. Among Dali's most famous paintings one can also
find the final resting place of himself.
Sitges
Stiges
is a small resort town about half an hour's drive away from Barcelona.
The old road leading to Stiges is very scenic, passing through
tunnels and behind cliffs with beautiful panorama. The
rich architecture and broad and charming sea boulevard gives Sitges
a clic atmosphere. Several elegant hotels around town contributed
to Sitges' reputation as a favorite holiday destination spot.
The climate makes it suitable for vacations throughout the year.
Apart from the seaside attractions, it has a vibrant nightlife
and an active gay community.
Tarragona
Its
a small town about 60 miles south of Barcelona. This site is of
great archaeological importance where several remnants of the
Roman Empire, from simple columns to a full size amphitheater
and a whole church have been unearthed. Tarragona has wonderful
beaches with unbeatable views over the sea. There are several
hotels, bars, restaurants and shops which facilitate tourism.
Girona
Girona
is located in the north eastern border of Spain with France. The
city has been fought over many times since it was founded. As
a result, Girona has seen many governments during its long history
and this is reflected in the variety of architectural styles found
in the city. The main attraction for tourism is the medieval center
including the Jewish quarter. The weather is un-mediterranean
with cold damp winters and scorching heat in summer. The flower
festival held every year is a great tourist attraction.
