Below are brief descriptions of some of
the best museums in Barcelona.
Museu Picasso.
Pablo Picasso went to art school and grew up in Barcelona. Hence
Barcelona has the largest Picasso museum which houses most of
his work. On display are his sketches on scrap paper, paintings,
full portraits,and other articles he once used.
Bullfight Museum "Plaza
de Toros Monumental". On display are dresses of famous
toreros and matadors and other objects from the bullfighting epoch.
Maritime Museum or the
"Porta de la Pau". Has an important collection
of artefacts from the history of spain. It includes documents
like "El Libre del Consolat de Mar" and the oldest known
codification of maritime laws.
Archaeological Museum "Montjuïc.
Paseo de Santa Madrona". It has a collection of objects
from prehistorical times upto the 7th century and documents and
artefacts of the Balearic culture and Roman mosaics.
Museum of Modern Art or "Parque
de la Ciutadella. Plaza de Armas". Has paintings and
sculptures from 17th century until today. Some of the original
works of Fortuny, Russiñol, Casas, Zuloaga, Sunyer, Solana,
and Picasso are on display.
There are several other museums that you can
visit including National Museum of Art of Catalunya, Museum Frederic
Marés, Museum of Ceramic, Museum of Graphic Art, Gaudí
Museum, Museum of the History of Medicine, Wax Figures Museum,
Museum of Music and Museum of the Soccer-Club of Barcelona.
