The Spanish language school has developed
a Spanish medical program destined for health professionals: doctors,
nurses, social workers... of all nationalities. The Spanish medical
program can be tailored to the student’s needs. They can
follow a general Spanish course and combine it with the medical
course or just arrange a tailored program according to their needs.
The program is arranged on an individual basis.

Classes:
Students will take general Spanish classes and
private classes. The The Spanish medical course requires a low
intermediate level in Spanish. The course is given by a professional
teacher from the Spanish language school.
Spanish Medical Program Objectives:
- to enable the student to understand and make himself/herself
understood in real situations related with his/her profession
- to learn the basic medical vocabulary
- to review grammatical and functional structures used to communicate
adequately in Spanish related to the medical field
- to learn about the Spanish healthcare system
Below are some of the contents. Of course, the students may wish
to indicate which field they would like to have their classes
focused on:
Spanish for Emergencies:
including general terminology about the human body, specialties
and pre-diagnosis, first-aid kit.
Spanish for Nurses:
Prevention (nutrition, vaccinations, visits to the dentist), Symptoms,
diagnostics, treatment (the flu, anesthesia, hypertension, osteoporosis,
asthma)
Communicating with
Patients: Expressing pain/sensations, questioning, informing,
expressing diagnosis, giving instructions.
Heath Care:
The healthcare system in Spain, the study of medicine in Spain,
associations, statistics.
Materials: The Spanish language school
has a series of books and handouts that they use when teaching
medical Spanish. The Spanish language school has developed books for general Spanish.
Observation/Professional
Meeting:
Concerning the possibility of volunteer in a
clinic or observe in a clinic, the Spanish language school is able to offer them
the "Professional colleague meeting service" which provides
contacts with Spanish specialists to explore the medical profession
in Spanish and in Spain. Through this service the Spanish language school can put
the students in contact with a Spanish professional of their field.
The cost of this service is about $130 USD per person per hour
and it has to be booked with a minimum of one month in advance.
It does not mean volunteer work, just the possibility of arranging
a contact with a Spanish professional in the place where they
develop their work.
Start Dates:
This program can start on any official start
date at the Spanish language school. Please refer to the program
