| El
Rastro is a gigantic flea market in Madrid that attracts several
thousand people. The streets of the entire area are filled with
stalls selling just about every kind of goods you can imagine.
Specific items are sold in
certain locations. Authentic antiques, furniture and paintings
can be found just beyond the statue of Cascorro, and in the stores
located to the side of the street. Your will also find bullfighters,
flamenco dancers, musicians and other artists entertaining the
crowd. There are several restaurants and food stalls where you
can have tapas or buy a quick drink at a refreshment stall.
The
rastro happens every sunday and has the feel of a traditional
market in Spain. It can get crowded so visitors are advised to
be aware of pick pockets and thieves. If you do not want to be
a part of the crowd you can visit the rastro on a saturday where
the crowds are less but so are the vendors.
