Alcazaba
King
Badis of Granada built this Arab monument as a fortified palace
in the 11th century. As one walks through the Alcazaba with its
stone paths and horseshoe arches one feels the Arab presence of
Malaga. Unique details within the structure along with the ten
major towers make the Alcazaba an impressive sight.
Cathedral
The
Cathedral of the Incarnation, built in 1528, in the gothic style
on the sightof a former Muslim mosque contains almost all the
architectural styles from the 16th to the 18th century. The reason
for this was that there were several different architects that
participated in its construction. The local people in Malaga call
their beloved Cathedral the "One-armed Lady" as it only
has one tower completed. The interior of the Cathedral houses
many beautiful works of art to accent its eclectic style.
Castillo Gibralfaro
The
Alcazaba of Málaga, together with the Castillo de Gibralfaro
(Castle of Gibralfaro) situated above it, make up one of the distinctive
and characteristic features of the landscape of this Mediterranean
city. Its robust ramparts, towers and bastions stand on a hillside
covered by typical Mediterranean brushwood and shaded by pine
trees, weeping willows and the elegant austere outline of cypress
trees.
