Around Santiago de Compostela
The area around Santiago de Compostela (Galicia)
Spain has plenty to offer the visitor. Below are just a few of
the places you can visit during your stay at the Spanish language
school. There are of course many other places not mentioned as
well. Check with the staff at the Spanish langauge school in Santiago

Tevedra: A small but interesting
town located at the mouth of the River Lérez. The town
is home to a variety of interesting historical attractions including
the Basilica of Santa Maria la Mayor, San Francisco (a church),
along with the old Sanctuary of La Peregrina. Stop by Pontevedra's
museum to see a small but interesting collection of pre-Roman
items.
Poio, Combarro, Raxo: The monastary
of San Juan de Poio is a beautiful structure dating from the 16th
century. The interior has some interesting features along with
a small museum. Close by are the small fishing villages of Combarro
and Raxo. Both these towns are quaint and have a distinctive maritime
flavor to them.
Portonovo and Sanxenxo: Sanxenxo
can be touristic, but the beaches make it worthwhile and the town
is beautiful. Nearby is Portonovo which is a small fishing town
which is interesting. The area is also home to some spectacular
beaches.
O Grove, Lanzada Beach, A Toxa Islan:
O Grove is a charming seaside town not far from Santiago de Compostela
which is famous for the seafood. From this town you are not far
from A Toxa Island. Here you will find many different bars, restaurants,
casinos, and even a golf course. This area is also home to a variety
of beatiful beaches, the most famous is La Lanzada. In the area
you will find many historical monuments and similar sites of interest.
Catoira: Located on the River
Ulla, at this spot you can see the remains of fortifications that
were originally built to protect the area from Viking raids.
Cambados: This town is famous
for its historic and majestic palaces. One of the most well know
is the Palacio de Fefiñas which was started in the 17th
century. Nearby is the Iglesia San Benito along with the ruins
of Santa Mariña Dozo. This town has plenty of other historic
sites plus is a great place to walk around and soak up the atmosphere.
Vilagarcia de Arousa: A quaint
seaside town which is famous for its old buildings, winding streets
and great atmosphere.
