There are 8 levels offered
which correspond to the levels set ou in the new "European
framework for language, teaching and evaluation'.
- Beginners
Students can express
basic opinions, feelings and needs related to daily life,
mainly orally. There will still be frequent errors in pronunciation
and ability to self correct, but this will not affect their
ability to communicate. In addition, they will be able to
understand short message and texts. Lastly, they will be able
to ask for information, explanations and clarification.
- Elementary
Students can express
basic opinions, feelings and needs related to daily life orally
and in writing. Their errors are mainly due to their need
to communicate more than they are capable of. They are capable
of asking for something as well as responding to something
that is said to them.
- Pre-intermediate
Students can express
general opinions, feelings and needs related to daily life
both orally and in writing. They make mistakes particularly
when using the past tense but this will not impede their being
understood. They will also have basic notions about communicative
skills that will allow them to understand a normal conversation.
Their reading skills allow them to understand informative
texts and basic literature.
- Intermediate
Students are able to
express their opinions both orally and in writing, they can
reason, summarise and paraphrase as well as try to influence
the opinions and reactions of others. Their written skills
allow them to write letters to a basic standard. They will
have a general knowledge about Spanish society and they are
able to take part in formal social situations
- Upper Intermediate
Students are able to
give detailed information about general topics. They are also
able to use communicative techniques to organise their ideas
better. They are able to write texts of a certain length and
grammatical difficulty. They will be able to understand general
informative texts as well as literary texts that require some
basic knowledge of the Spanish culture.
- Advanced
Students are able to
infer the opinions of others and express their own opinion
during a conversation. As well as being able to write texts
of certain length and complexity, they will be able to recognise
the most frequently used styles and perceive implicit elements
such as irony, metaphors etc. Their fluency and pronunciation
will allow others to understand them without difficulty.
- Superior
The student will be
able to maintain a fluent conversation using discursive techniques
which will allow them to speak correctly. They will be able
to select the appropriate vocabulary and forms for different
situations. They will be able to reformulate speech in order
to argue opposite points of view and try to convince someone.
They will be able to read literature by contemporary authors
that make reference to specific cultural topics. For written
work they will be able to use different creative styles.
- Proficiency
Students will be able
to change their style of speaking easily and will dominate
changes of speed and intonation thus helping them to acquire
a genuine Spanish accent. They will learn different styles
of speech such as how to give conferences and presentations.
They will be familiar with more specific communicative functions
of the language and will recognise different Spanish dialects.
