Host Family
Accommodation in a host
family allows you to get the maximum out of your Spanish language
course. Many of the host families that the Spanish school employs
have worked with them since the Spanish school was founded. The
families know from experience what the role of a host is. In a
large city like Valencia (Spain) you should expect to travel about
15-20 minutes from your home to the school. Valencia has excellent
transportation so getting there is not a problem. Breakfast and
dinner are included and prepared for you when you stay with a
host family. Typically there will be another student in the home
with you.
Nowhere else will you directly
experience real Spanish life and nothing could be better to help
improve your language skills. However the word 'family' should
not be taken too literally, because your family could also be
a single parent who takes in students because he or she enjoys
the company. Sometimes there is also a Spanish student living
with the family.
It is obvious that you will
have to adjust a little to the rules of the house. Remember too,
that Spanish people have different eating habits. Apart from that,
you are free to do what you want. You will be given your own keys,
so you can come and go as you please. You will be able to receive
phone calls at home.
It is important to realize
that in Europe many things are smaller than North Americans are
accustomed to: cars, Cokes, and possibly your room. You may arrive
at the home on the Sunday before you classes start and you will
be expected to leave the Saturday after classes are over. It may
be possible to stay extra nights, check with us for details. If
you have special dietary needs, such as vegetarianism, it is possible
for you to stay with a host family that can accommodate this request.
Student Flats
Students share a student
flat with four or five other Spanish language students. The school
will always do their best to accommodate students in a student
apartment with different nationalities. The student apartments
are not very luxurious but they have all the basic amenities:
a bed, table, chair, and a wardrobe. Each student flat has a living
room with television, a fully equipped kitchen, and a washing
machine however no telephones are available. You can make your
phone calls from one of the many phone boxes outside on the street.
You share the kitchen and the living bathroom and, together, you
keep the house clean. Every week, a Spanish school employee cleans
the common areas.
Your flat is located about
10-20 minutes away from the Spanish language school. This option
is great for independent students. You will have to prepare your
own meals because they are not included with this option. You
will need to bring a towel for showering, however sheets and a
pillow are provided.
Student Residence (University)
The Spanish language school also offers accommodation
in student residences. These residence are located near the main
university in Valencia and provide easy access to the Spanish
language school. Single or double rooms are available, and a bathroom
that is shared among 3 or 4 students. They all have common areas,
a TV lounge and a dining room. With the residence option you can
receive 1 or 2 meals per day.
Studio Apartment
If you prefer complete privacy then consider
staying in a studio apartment. Each studio can accommodate 1-2
people and have a small living area, bed, bathroom and kitchenette.
Minimum stay for a studio is 4 weeks.
