Although
Vejer is not a beach town, its close proximity to several beaches
with white sand and clear water makes it a popular tourist destination.
The closest is El Palmar beach.
It is not accessible by road hence is relatively free from crowds
and ideal for relaxing or surfing. With no construction allowed
around the beach it is well preserved
The
cape of Trafalgar is a small beach resort with beautiful scenery
and cliffs. The beach has strong currents and tides and can be
a little risky for children and adults unaccustomed to the sea.
The turbulent waves can be fatal for swimmers who venture too
far. The lighthouse made famous from the battle of Trafalgar dominates
the horizon.
The Los Canos beach is considered
to be one of the most peaceful in the region. It is not crowded
and does not have the usual beach facilities. There is a light
house area with a promenade with some excellent views. In winter,
rain water helps to form lagoons in the lighthouse area. They
host a variety of amphibians, reptiles and fish and is appreciated
for its rich fauna and archeological remains. The area is also
home to a number of species of coastal birds. Around the beach
are some residential developments and the Breñas Nature
Park. There is also a nudist section to this beach. The region
is also known for its lively nightspots during summer.
Pirata is a lovely beach also
located in the region of Los Caños with fine sand and clean
water. Pirata offers good facilities including lifeguards, toilets,
showers and a host of bars and restaurants.
