Spanish life has taken a turn from conservative
religious customs to an ideal mix of both modern and traditional
living. Handshaking is the customary form of greeting and kissing
both cheeks is normal.
Beachwear should be confined to beach, resort
or poolside and shirts should always be worn in public places
and on public transport. Be particularly careful of dress code
in churches. Swim-wear, short skirts and revealing outfits are
frowned upon.
Smoking is widely accepted and expect a lot of
smoke in restaurants and public places. Meals are often eaten
later than usual. Breakfast is usually served at about 9 am, lunch
at 2 pm and dinner at about 9 pm.
Spanish men can sometimes stare at females for
a long time, particularly women traveling alone. It is safe to
not respond because any attention given is likely to be misinterpreted.
Spaniards live a laid back life style. They are
a very happy people and enjoy life to the full. They love music,
dance, food ,drink and of course their afternoon siesta.
