Situated
between Argentina and Brazil, Uruguay is one of the smallest countries
found in South America. However do not let the small size of the
country fool you. Uruguay is home to well over 300 miles of long
sandy beaches, rolling hills, streams and rivers. It is said that
Montevideo is one of the most interesting capital cities in South
America. As you head towards the interior of the country you will
discover quaint villages and absolutely charming colonial towns.
In sum, you will find Uruguay to be an absolutely beautiful country.
Though many people are not familiar with Uruguay,
upon arrival they will discover that this is a country with a
long and rich history. Uruguay has a history that extends back
centuries, and as you travel through it, you will have a chance
to see and witness some amazing architecture and customs that
date back to the colonial era.
Along
the coast you will find amazing stretches of beaches, modern cities,
quaint colonial towns, all of which are just a couple hours from
Montevideo. Moving into the interior the visitor will find rolling
grasslands which today still are populated by the gaucho (cowboy).
A visitor can have a chance to see all of the great things in
this country because everything is within driving distance!
The majority of the people of Uruguay are of
European decent. Two of the larger groups are Spanish and Italian.
With immigrants from many parts of Europe now residing in Uruguay,
the culture and feel is distinctly cosmopolitan. Today Uruguay
can boast that it's citizens are very educated and have very open
society.
