A
Quick Overview Of Montevideo
Montevideo
is the charming capital of the Eastern Republic of Uruguay. This
city is the southern most capital in South America and is called
home by approximately half the population of Uruguay. With a history
of over two and a half centuries, the city maintains a living
legacy of both the old and the new. Mansions once owned by notable
citizens have been turned into cultural museums. Magnicent monuments,
palaces, plazas, promenades, sculptures and wide avenues define
the beauty and feel of the city and immediately capture the hearts
of its visitors.
Over the centuries Uruguay has received immigrants
from all over Europe. These immigrants have influence all aspects
of society, culture and architecture. Some of the more influential
groups include the Spanish, Portuguese, French and British. It
is said by some that Montevideo has some of the most interesting
architecture in South America.
While Montevideo does not offer many "must
see" attractions, visitors tend to fall in love with this
city. Take some time to walk around the
city and you will be rewarded for your efforts. Start off with
an exploration of the Old City and work your way along into the
newer areas. Along the way you will see cultural events, beautiful
gardens and parks, an interesting riverfront, plus much more!
Quickly you will start to get a feel for the way the locals live
on a daily basis.
For those that love entertainment, Montevideo
will not dissapoint you. The city is home to a wide variety of
excellent restaurants, bars, nightclubs, markets, and more. During
the warmer months you can spend time in the sun on the beach.
Due to the small size of Uruguay most of the
country's sites of interest are within just a few hours by car.
Whatever your interests may be, Montevideo is
sure to be an interesting place to spend time learning Spanish.
