To & Around Montevideo & The Rest Of Uruguay
Taxi
Making
use of a taxi is a grea way to get around the city. By North American
and European standards the cost of a taxi is relatively inexpensive.
Taxis are painted black and yellow and the top of the car has
a "taxi" sign on the top. All taxis have a meter so
make sure the driver uses it. Please note that the price will
be higher at night and/or weekends. You can pretty much get a
taxi anywhere.
Plane
The airport for Montevideo is called Carrasco
and is located about 12 miles outside the city. Travel time to
the city center can take approximately 35 minutes. Taxi service
is available along with an airport bus. A variety of international
flights service Montevideo. Note: When looking
for a flight to Montevideo you may want to take a look at flights
into Buenos Aires. Many times you can find a cheaper flight. From
Buenos Aires you can take a cheap flight to Montevideo. You an
also take a ferry from Buenos Aires which takes about 2.5 hours.
Bus
Taking the bus is a very economical way to get
around Montevideo. They typically run long hours on major streets.
Wait time can range from 5-25 minutes depending on where you are.
Try to have exact change or small bills when using the bus. You
can also tell the driver where you will be getting off.
From Montevideo you can take a bus to all parts
of the country. Check with the school for more information. Due
to the small size of the country, you will never experience a
terribly long bus trip.
Ferry Service
There is ferry service along the coast of Uruguay
and between Uruguay and Argentina. It is a great way to travel
and relatively inexpensive. Click
